Cristiano Ronaldo Accuses Coach Jorge Jesus of Broken Promises

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the reasons behind his departure from the Portugal national team camp, accusing coach Jorge Jesus of failing to honor commitments made to him.

In a detailed statement on X, the 41-year-old forward recounted the events leading to his exit, expressing his disappointment over the handling of his role within the team.

Following the 2026 World Cup, Ronaldo had prepared a farewell letter but was persuaded by Federation president Pedro Proença to continue. He also supported Jesus as the new head coach, believing it was the right choice.

Ronaldo stated that Jesus promised him a pivotal role in the team's future, specifically saying he would play in the first and last matches of their campaign. However, the plan changed unexpectedly.

When asked on the day of the Norway match if he was fit to play 30 minutes, Ronaldo agreed, believing he was well-prepared for the challenge. Surprisingly, he was not called upon, leading him to feel misled by the coach.

Apologizing for not greeting fans after the game, Ronaldo described it as a personal failure. He later held a meeting with Jesus and the sporting director of Al Nassr, Simão Coutinho, where they allegedly agreed on a public clarification regarding the situation. The outcome at the press conference, however, did not align with what was discussed.

“This was the second time he broke his word to me,” Ronaldo declared, explaining his reason for leaving the camp. He emphasized the importance of honesty in interpersonal relationships.

Ronaldo accepted that he should face consequences for his walkout but reiterated his commitment to competing for the national team in the future. He rejected the notion of ceremonial farewell matches, stating he wants to be part of a competitive squad.

“If I am physically well and scoring goals at my club, I will always be available to represent Portugal,” he affirmed, underscoring his desire to contribute to the team's success.

Ronaldo's departure has sparked conversations around team dynamics and leadership within the Portuguese national setup as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
