While addressing members of the Apo Traders Association in Abuja, Wike emphasized that his effectiveness as FCT Minister should translate into electoral support for Tinubu. He highlighted a broad coalition supporting the President, including members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I’ll tell you one thing about this place. We are doing a rainbow coalition. Even people in the PDP are supporting Tinubu,” Wike stated, underscoring the cross-party backing for the President.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, regards the FCT as his workplace, while Rivers remains his home. He expressed a strong sense of accountability, stating he should be judged based on the election outcomes in these regions.
“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I am not worthy to be here,” Wike declared, stressing that a defeat for Tinubu would prompt serious questions about his performance as a minister.
He pledged to take full responsibility for the electoral results, stating he would announce his resignation the day after the presidential poll if Tinubu loses in the FCT or Rivers.
“I’m a practical person. The presidential election is on January 16, 2027. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he affirmed.
Wike's strong stance highlights the political stakes involved as Nigeria gears up for the upcoming elections, with implications for both his career and the broader political landscape.
His commitment to resigning underscores the importance he places on delivering results for the Tinubu administration, revealing the intense pressure on political leaders to secure electoral victories.
