Peter Obi Unveils Bold Four-Year Reform Agenda for Nigeria

In a decisive move ahead of the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched a comprehensive four-year governance agenda focused on competent leadership, economic revitalization, and enhanced security.

Obi emphasized his personal commitment to governance, stating he would not delegate responsibilities to proxies. Instead, he plans to redirect savings from the removal of fuel subsidies into critical sectors like agriculture and job creation.

During an exclusive interview on Arise News, Obi asserted that a focused approach would allow for meaningful change within four years, citing his successful tenure as Governor of Anambra State as evidence of his capability.

He reiterated his pledge to prioritize existing infrastructure rehabilitation over new projects, stating, “We will not build new roads until we fix the existing ones.”

Addressing the controversial fuel subsidy, Obi criticized the current government's handling of funds generated from its removal, arguing that these resources should be invested in productive sectors rather than wasted.

He expressed his intent to eliminate corruption associated with the subsidy regime and promised to stabilize fuel prices through better management and domestic refining.

Obi also outlined plans to invest in Northern Nigeria's agricultural potential, asserting that the region holds significant assets that can be harnessed for economic growth.

On security, Obi vowed to take direct control, appoint competent security heads, and engage with communities affected by violence. He dismissed ransom payments as a solution to kidnapping, advocating for modern surveillance technologies instead.

The NDC candidate also reaffirmed his commitment to concede defeat in a fair election, while maintaining his position that he won the 2023 presidential election.

Rejecting ethnic or religious criteria for leadership, Obi argued that competence should drive elections, declaring, “I am qualified to be president of Nigeria.”

He committed to a one-term presidency, focusing on reversing Nigeria’s current trajectory towards sustainable development, and promised to be an accessible leader who engages directly with citizens.

Obi’s agenda includes plans for real-time result transmission during elections, aiming to enhance electoral accountability without establishing a parallel electoral body.
