In a statement issued in Abeokuta, PDP State Publicity Secretary Arc. Kayode Adebayo reassured supporters that Adebutu is a fully registered and financially active member of the party, emphasizing his status as a recognized leader in Ogun State.
Adebayo insisted that the party has adhered to all legal requirements concerning membership registration and has duly submitted its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stated, “All necessary processes were completed within the stipulated deadlines, making the claims against Adebutu’s eligibility unfounded.”
The PDP accused opponents of orchestrating a politically charged campaign to undermine Adebutu ahead of the crucial election. The party alleged that these claims are part of a strategy by elements aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to create confusion among voters and distract from pressing issues.
Additionally, the PDP questioned the political background of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District. They raised concerns about Adeola’s previous representation of Lagos State and his subsequent political activities in Ogun.
The party further claimed that misdirected federal constituency projects, originally intended for other states, have been improperly funneled to Ogun State. They argued that these issues warrant public attention, but political opponents are attempting to shift focus by challenging Adebutu’s candidacy.
On legal matters raised by ODAF regarding Supreme Court rulings and nomination fees, the PDP clarified that eligibility is determined by the Constitution and the Electoral Act, not by statements from politically aligned groups.
“Political eligibility is governed by the Constitution and applicable judicial authorities, not by press releases from advocacy groups,” the party asserted. They urged INEC to disregard attempts by political proxies to create uncertainty around Adebutu’s candidacy.
The PDP reassured its members and supporters that Adebutu’s nomination process remains valid, affirming his eligibility to seek the party's mandate in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.
As the political landscape intensifies, the PDP's defense of Adebutu may play a critical role in shaping voter perceptions ahead of the polls.
