Saidu confirmed that the bridge has passed all necessary integrity tests and complies with engineering standards, labeling the allegations of structural failure as unfounded. “The bridge is structurally stable,” he asserted, urging the public to rely on scientific assessments rather than unverified online content.
He emphasized that engineering evaluations must be based on rigorous tests, not assumptions. The ministry is committed to maintaining high standards for federal infrastructure projects, underscoring that the Oju-Ore bridge is being built according to approved designs and specifications.
While some minor finishing works remain, Saidu noted that heavy-duty vehicles have already traversed the bridge, indicating its capacity even before completion. He cautioned against public activities beneath the bridge during ongoing construction, labeling such behavior as unsafe.
The ministry expressed confidence that the contractor, Laralek Construction Company, has addressed previous construction challenges and will meet the project deadline. Mr. Tope Ojo, representing the contractor, affirmed that all major structural components have been built in accordance with approved engineering designs.
Ojo further clarified that independent consultants conducted the required integrity tests, with results confirming compliance with engineering standards. Officials from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) have also assessed the project on-site.
Comrade Akomolafe Zubair, a member of the Oju-Ore Stakeholders Council, welcomed the ministry's assurances, noting that the technical assessment would help restore public confidence. He urged residents and motorists to remain patient as the remaining work is completed.
The Oju-Ore bridge project is under the close supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works, with the contractor expected to finalize outstanding tasks as per the approved schedule.
