Obi Urges Rivers Citizens: “Make Your Votes Count in 2027

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate from the 2023 elections, has called on Rivers State residents to actively participate in the 2027 general election and ensure their votes are counted. 

In a statement shared on X following a town hall meeting organized by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Port Harcourt, Obi emphasized the importance of voter engagement for a credible electoral process.

The former governor of Anambra State highlighted various pressing issues facing Nigerians, including employment, healthcare, education, and security. He pledged that his administration would prioritize these areas to drive national development.

Obi cited success stories from countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, and India, illustrating how focused leadership can lead to significant improvements in citizens' living conditions. He pointed to Bangladesh’s advancements in rice production and Indonesia's growth of small and medium enterprises as models for Nigeria.

“My greatest elation today came from the renewed commitment I saw among the good people of Rivers State to participate massively in the 2027 elections and ensure that their votes are counted,” Obi stated, expressing optimism about the upcoming electoral process.

He urged voters to seize the opportunity to demand a transparent electoral system, asserting that legitimate leaders could only emerge from free and fair elections. “Let it be recorded that this time around, the people of Rivers State will vote, and their votes MUST count,” he declared.

Obi also outlined Rivers State's potential to lead the way for credible elections, asserting, “Rivers State can and should set the pace for excellent, free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.”

The NDC town hall focused on practical solutions to Nigeria's development challenges and emphasized the importance of citizen participation in governance. Obi thanked the NDC leadership and supporters for their involvement in the event.

He reiterated the opposition movement's broader objective: to “rescue Nigeria, rebuild our institutions, and restore hope to our people.” 

As the 2027 election approaches, Obi's call to action resonates strongly, aiming to galvanize Rivers State voters for a more participatory and credible political landscape.
