Nigeria Police Force Denies Fake Recruitment Announcement for 50,000 Constables

The Nigeria Police Force has officially dismissed a misleading press statement circulating on social media that claimed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had authorized the training of 50,000 newly recruited constables. The Force issued a disclaimer on Friday, stating the document is a forgery.

The false statement, which mimicked the Police Force's letterhead and included the name of Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, made several unfounded claims about training protocols and timelines for new recruits. It also falsely suggested that successful candidates should check an official recruitment portal for training details beginning September 14, 2026.

In its response, the Police Force confirmed that the document was neither issued nor authorized by any of its official channels. “The purported press release is false and misleading,” the statement read.

The Police urged the public, particularly those interested in joining the Force, to disregard the fraudulent announcement and rely solely on verified information from official recruitment channels. “Candidates should be cautious and trust only information published through our official platforms,” the statement emphasized.

In addition to the warning, the Nigeria Police Force disclosed that it is actively pursuing those responsible for creating and disseminating the fake statement. Legal actions will be taken against those found culpable.

This incident highlights a troubling trend of misinformation regarding recruitment processes within security agencies, misleading many job seekers. The Police Force reiterated its commitment to providing accurate information and upholding transparency in recruitment practices.

As part of its ongoing efforts, the Force will continue to monitor such fraudulent activities and ensure that the public is informed about legitimate recruitment updates.
