In a recent interview, Mr. Macaroni discussed the life threats he received during the EndSARS protests. He noted that while the video circulating is over two years old, his sentiments still resonate today. “It’s tiring to say the same thing over and over again,” he expressed, emphasizing that until Nigerians are ready to demand change, his voice may not matter.
The actor previously labeled President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “the Most Useless Government in the history of Useless Governments,” marking a pivotal moment when he decided to take a break from activism. He criticized a small group of politicians who continue to negatively impact over 200 million Nigerians without facing resistance.
Mr. Macaroni lamented the prevailing “survival mentality” among Nigerians, asserting that this mindset prevents citizens from advocating for an environment conducive to success. He shared his struggles with public perception, stating that despite his efforts, many of those he aimed to represent turned against him.
He recalled the emotional toll of being targeted for his activism, recalling how his family frequently expressed concern for his safety, even suggesting he leave the country. “I’m not running anywhere,” he asserted, highlighting his commitment to his beliefs.
Despite stepping back, Mr. Macaroni remained active during the 2023 elections, encouraging informed voting while sharing his preferred candidate. Unfortunately, he faced significant backlash, including insults, for voicing his opinions.
The outcome of the elections has further complicated his willingness to engage in political discourse. “What should I come and say again now?” he questioned, reflecting on the current political climate.
While he enjoys his break from activism, Mr. Macaroni is not abandoning his passion for art, indicating that he is focused on redefining himself creatively. He remains hopeful that when Nigerians are ready to demand change, he will be ready to join the fight again.
