LASRRA Urges Ikorodu Residents to Register for Accurate Population Data

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) is intensifying its registration drive in Ikorodu Division, emphasizing that accurate population data is crucial for effective government planning and the provision of essential services.

This call to action was made during a sensitization campaign and town hall meeting held at the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. AbdulHakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin Kingdom.

Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, General Manager of LASRRA, highlighted the agency's collaboration with traditional institutions to make the registration process more accessible to residents. She stated, “Every resident of Lagos counts and should be counted,” underlining that reliable data helps the government understand community needs.

To facilitate registration, LASRRA is expanding its efforts beyond conventional centers, targeting locations such as schools, healthcare facilities, and vaccination centers where residents often gather.

Adebiyi-Abiola noted that particular attention is being paid to children and students, especially those in private schools, following a directive mandating their registration. LASRRA aims to register students at no cost, with a goal of capturing data from private schools across Lagos within the coming year.

A comprehensive database of students will enable better planning and improve educational services statewide, she explained. To streamline the process, LASRRA is also deploying technology for convenient scheduling of registration visits to schools.

Addressing concerns regarding LASRRA identity cards, the General Manager informed residents that cards are being distributed to local government areas based on registration addresses. She encouraged those who registered to check card availability using the agency's shortcode, 347641#, or through official communication channels.

For residents with old registrations, Adebiyi-Abiola clarified that they retain their LASRRA registration numbers, but those with changes in personal details must undergo validation to update their information.

The agency is also reviewing its plastic card system to introduce a more efficient and cost-effective card that could support public transportation services, including the BRT and rail systems.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Oyebo, praised LASRRA for bringing the sensitization program to the community and emphasized the importance of accurate data for effective government planning. He encouraged all eligible residents to register, stressing that the exercise is not linked to head tax but is focused on planning and development.

Moreover, as part of the initiative, LASRRA announced 20 free slots for Trade Test certification aimed at eligible artisans and skilled workers in the community, further supporting local economic development.
