Jigawa Community Comes Together for Three-Day Prayer for Rain

Residents of Basirka town in Jigawa State have united in a heartfelt plea for rain, holding a three-day special prayer following a prolonged drought that has devastated local farmlands.

The prayer sessions, which began on Saturday and continued through Monday, took place at the Eid ground in the Gwaram Local Government Area, attracting hundreds of community members seeking divine intervention.

Known as Salatul Istisqa, the special prayer aimed to address the acute shortage of rainfall that has left crops withering and farmers in distress. On Monday, participants also observed a voluntary fast, highlighting their commitment to seeking help from Almighty Allah.

During the gatherings, the Chief Imam of Basirka, Sheikh Sanunu Basirka, led the prayers and emphasized the importance of repentance and returning to God. He conveyed that the special prayer was not merely a one-time event but a necessary act in their current circumstances.

"We have gathered here to sincerely repent and ask Allah for forgiveness and abundant rainfall that will bring mercy and prosperity to our land," he said.

The Imam noted that the lack of rain serves as a test from Allah, urging the community to intensify their prayers and charitable acts while avoiding behaviors that might attract divine displeasure.

Despite some regions in the southern part of Nigeria receiving heavy rainfall, many northern states, including Jigawa, are grappling with erratic weather patterns that have significantly impacted farming.

Participants, including farmers, elders, and youth, filled the Eid ground, sitting under the blazing sun with hands raised, calling for divine mercy. 

Ibrahim Musa Dankoli, a 65-year-old farmer, lamented the drying of his maize and millet farms due to insufficient rain. "We have no option but to return to Allah for help," he stated.

Another resident, Haruna Aliyu Basirka, voiced concerns over the impact of the drought on local farming, stating, "We are worried because this is the middle of the farming season, and the rains have ceased."

Youth leader Malam Sulaiman Adamu Basirka explained that the community organized the special prayer in response to the changing weather patterns, uniting in their desire for beneficial rain to save their crops and livestock.

The collective effort reflects the community's resilience and faith in seeking divine assistance during challenging times. As they await the response to their prayers, the hope for rainfall remains a crucial lifeline for the farmers of Basirka.
