Atiku will not be absentee president if elected, ADC assures Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will provide an accessible and responsive presidency if elected in the 2027 elections. The ADC emphasized that Atiku will not be an "absentee President" when the nation requires decisive leadership.

Kola Ologbondiyan, Director of Media and Publicity for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, delivered this message during a meeting with the Atiku Unity Movement in Abuja. He stressed Atiku's deep understanding of Nigeria’s pressing economic and social challenges, highlighting his proposed policy initiatives aimed at addressing these issues.

Ologbondiyan recalled Atiku's previous advocacy for a phased withdrawal of fuel subsidies, which he argued should avoid imposing undue hardship on Nigerians. He stated, “The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance."

He further emphasized that Nigeria cannot afford uncertainty in leadership, especially during critical times. “We require firm and focused leadership,” Ologbondiyan added.

Atiku’s governance approach aims to tackle economic difficulties, enhance citizens' welfare, and restore confidence in public institutions. His recent proposals focus on alleviating the burdens of rising energy and living costs.

Among his initiatives is a production-based intervention for petroleum products, which includes a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval, and independent audits. However, this proposal has faced scrutiny from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which questions its legal and operational frameworks.

The leader of the Atiku Unity Movement, Francis Eburuwe, expressed full commitment to Atiku's candidacy, pledging to mobilize support across Nigeria for a change in political direction. He voiced confidence that an Atiku administration would effectively address the nation's challenges and improve citizens' welfare.

As the ADC campaign gains momentum, it coincides with ongoing debates regarding President Bola Tinubu's extended absence from Nigeria during a working vacation. Critics have raised concerns about the implications of his prolonged stay abroad, while the Presidency maintains that he continues to fulfill his duties remotely.

With the election approaching, Atiku's promises of a present and engaged presidency resonate strongly with voters seeking effective leadership during challenging times. The ADC's commitment to grassroots mobilization signals a concerted effort to rally support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
