ASUU-UNIZIK Ends Strike Following Full Payment of August Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (ASUU-UNIZIK), has officially suspended its strike action after the payment of August 2026 salaries was completed. The decision, effective immediately from September 11, 2026, follows a resolution made during a branch congress.

In a statement signed by Branch Chairperson Innocent Nnubia and Secretary Osita Nnajiofor, the union directed all members to resume their academic and administrative duties, including teaching, supervision, and committee meetings.

The strike commenced on September 7 due to delays in salary payments, with members initially withdrawing services until their grievances were addressed. “We commend all comrades for your resoluteness and unity during this period,” the statement read.

With salaries now fully paid, ASUU-UNIZIK emphasized the importance of returning to work and continuing their responsibilities. The union also urged members to remain vigilant and monitor developments closely.

The resolution to suspend the strike aligns with ASUU's national stance of “No Pay, No Work,” prompting the union to act decisively in response to the salary delays. Updates on future actions and negotiations will be shared through official union channels.
