Accountant-General's Office Ordered to Update Staff Records for Asset Declaration

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has been directed by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to undergo a fresh assets and liabilities declaration exercise. This follows a request for an updated nominal roll of personnel within the OAGF.

An internal circular issued by A.T. Mohammed, Director of Administration at the OAGF, on August 28, 2026, outlined the need for all relevant offices to compile personnel records for submission.

The CCB's request is aimed at facilitating the upcoming declaration exercise, which aims to promote transparency and accountability within public service.

The circular specified that all affected offices must submit their updated staff lists by September 2, 2026, underscoring the urgency of the task.

The required submissions must be made in both hard and electronic formats, with a designated template provided for ease of compliance.

While the directive does not imply any investigation into OAGF workers, it highlights the importance of maintaining accurate personnel records as part of Nigeria’s constitutional framework for ethical governance.

The CCB's role includes administering the Code of Conduct for public officers and ensuring compliance with asset declaration requirements.

The OAGF, which plays a crucial role in managing the Federal Government's financial operations, must ensure that its records are current to facilitate this process.

The request for an updated nominal roll is particularly relevant given the office's responsibilities in treasury operations and financial reporting.

The circular emphasized strict compliance and urged directors, heads of units, and zonal coordinators to prioritize this task.

The short deadline allows for limited time to gather and compile the necessary information, highlighting the need for efficient administrative practices.

Asset declaration is a vital measure for identifying potential conflicts of interest and promoting accountability among public officers.

By ensuring that personnel records are accurate, the OAGF can support the CCB’s efforts in maintaining integrity within public service.

This exercise underscores the ongoing commitment to transparency and ethical conduct in Nigeria's public financial management.

As the deadline approaches, all involved parties are reminded of their responsibility to submit complete and accurate records.
