Alabi, who was the Abese of Ibadanland, reportedly died on Saturday morning in Lagos.
His death was announced in a statement issued by the Olubadan Palace and signed by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko.
The statement described Alabi as a veteran journalist and multiple Press Secretary to former Oyo State governors, confirming that he died at the age of 76.
According to the palace, family sources disclosed that the late media icon would be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Alabi was widely regarded as one of Oyo State’s accomplished journalists and communication practitioners, having built a distinguished career spanning journalism, public relations and public service.
He served as Chief Press Secretary to successive governors of Oyo State, where he was known for his professionalism, eloquence and commitment to public communication.
Beyond his journalism career, Alabi was also a historian, author and cultural advocate who contributed significantly to the documentation and promotion of Ibadan and Yoruba history and heritage.
His contributions to the cultural development of Ibadanland earned him the traditional title of Abese of Ibadanland.
His death has continued to attract tributes from political leaders, journalists, traditional institutions and associates who described him as a respected media professional and cultural ambassador.
Alabi’s passing marks the loss of a prominent figure whose career cut across journalism, government communication, history and cultural advocacy.
The family is expected to release further details concerning the funeral arrangements following his burial, which will be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.
