The attack occurred at the Ataoja palace and has raised serious concerns about political thuggery in Osun State.
Personnel from the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), led by CSP Afolabi Lukman, tracked the suspects to the Gbeja area of Oke-Baale, where they found a Toyota Sienna abandoned by the fleeing thugs.
Security sources confirmed that campaign materials from the Accord party were discovered in the vehicle.
While the police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, declined to comment further, he promised to update the media as the investigation progresses.
The incident has sparked a heated response from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
In a statement, APC member Remi Omowaye accused Governor Adeleke of enabling political violence, asserting that the gang leader behind the attack, Taoreed Ademola, was released from prison by the state government.
This troubling situation highlights the growing threat of political thuggery associated with the Governor’s camp,” he stated.
The APC called on Adeleke to take immediate action against the violence, emphasizing that it was his responsibility to maintain order and prevent political disputes from escalating.
Osun State should not become a battleground for thugs,” Omowaye added.
The APC Governorship Campaign Council expressed condolences to the families of those affected by the attack and condemned the violence, calling for a commitment to peaceful political discourse.
As tensions rise in the state, the focus remains on how the Governor will respond to these allegations and ensure the safety of all citizens during the electoral season.
