At just 22 years old, Baleba becomes the third midfielder to join the Red Devils this summer, following fellow recruits Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. His transfer fee is reported to be £70 million ($95 million), bringing Manchester United's total expenditure on midfielders to over £150 million this transfer window.
“Carlos Baleba has already established himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League,” United stated. Last season, he ranked sixth in the league for combined tackles and interceptions and was fourth for progressive ball carries per 90 minutes.
United had previously expressed interest in Baleba a year ago but hesitated due to Brighton’s high asking price. Despite a less impressive previous season, the club remained determined to secure the talented midfielder.
“I’m thrilled to join the club of my dreams,” Baleba said. “Playing at Old Trafford is always special, but doing so as a Manchester United player is a real honor.”
He highlighted his eagerness to work with Michael Carrick, praising the coach's experience and knowledge as essential for his development. “I cannot wait to reach the highest level under his guidance,” Baleba added.
With the departure of veteran midfielder Casemiro at the end of last season, Baleba's arrival is seen as a crucial step in reshaping United's midfield strategy as they aim for success in the upcoming campaign.
As fans look forward to the new season, Baleba's signing is generating excitement and optimism around Old Trafford, signaling Manchester United's ambition to reclaim their status among the elite in English football.
