The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, disclosed the development on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
According to Fatodu, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, Iganmu, has been selected as the venue for the prestigious ceremony.
The CAF Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in African football, recognising top players, coaches, clubs, national teams and administrators for their performances in club and international competitions.
The 2026 edition is expected to bring together some of Africa’s biggest football stars and key stakeholders in the sport.
Awards to be presented include the Men’s Player of the Year, Women’s Player of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year and Club of the Year.
The hosting rights further strengthen Nigeria’s position as a major destination for continental sporting events. The country is also scheduled to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October 2026.
Nigeria has previously hosted the CAF Awards, including the 2015 edition at the Eko Hotels and Convention Centre in Lagos and the 2017 ceremony at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
At the 2017 edition, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez won the Men’s Player of the Year award, while former Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala emerged as the Women’s Player of the Year.
The hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards is expected to further spotlight Lagos and Nigeria on the African football calendar.
