First Lady Remi Tinubu to Unveil Revitalized Buhari Estate: A Modern Housing Community in Ogun State

Ogun State is set to witness the commissioning of the rejuvenated President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta, with First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu officiating the event on Tuesday. This transformation marks a significant turnaround for the estate, which has evolved into a 108-unit modern residential community.

Originally inherited in a largely undeveloped state, the project faced legal disputes and potential forfeiture due to unpaid obligations to the contractor. However, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, stepped in to resolve the issues, ensuring the estate's recovery and development.

The administration opted for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, allowing private developers to construct and sell housing units while the state provided land and infrastructure. This strategic approach has led to the completion of the estate, featuring 108 four-bedroom duplexes designed with contemporary architecture and top-notch facilities.

Key amenities include well-constructed road networks, street lighting, landscaped green spaces, clean water supply, waste management systems, a sports center, children’s playground, clubhouse, 24-hour power supply, and security within a gated community.

The fully detached homes are situated on approximately 900 square meters, boasting four en-suite bedrooms, boys’ quarters, spacious living areas, and terraces. The semi-detached units, ranging from 460 to 500 square meters, offer similar amenities minus a study.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that this project showcases his administration’s commitment to protecting public investments and completing inherited projects rather than allowing them to languish. 

“This initiative is part of our promise to provide quality and affordable housing to various residents while ensuring that past government projects are completed,” he stated.

Strategically located opposite the State Judiciary Complex and near the Ogun TechHub, the estate offers easy access to key institutional and commercial hubs, being only a short drive from major attractions like the Abeokuta Golf Course and the Wole Soyinka Train Station.

Private-sector interest in the area is also growing, with Access Bank planning to develop a training school and additional facilities within the estate. 

The commissioning will not only mark the successful completion of a project that once faced abandonment but also serve as a model for future public-private housing developments across Ogun State.

Beyond the 108 homes, the PMB Estate represents a significant achievement in safeguarding public assets and transforming inherited liabilities into productive infrastructure for the residents of Ogun State.
