In a statement issued in Osogbo, Oyintiloye urged Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo to work closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and violence-free election scheduled for August 15.
“As tensions rise around this election, it is crucial for the police to prioritize the safety of voters and uphold the integrity of the ballot,” he stated. He underscored that protecting the electorate before, during, and after the election should be paramount.
He added, “A credible election can only take place in a peaceful environment. We are appealing to security agencies, especially the police, to help maintain that peace.”
Oyintiloye further stressed that elections should not resemble a battleground. He called on political actors, particularly from opposition parties, to avoid violence and work collaboratively for a smooth election.
He also encouraged the public to support law enforcement in their efforts to ensure safety, challenging the police to hold accountable anyone inciting trouble, regardless of political affiliation.
“It is vital that Osun is not turned into a theater of violence over this election,” he warned, asserting that the integrity of the electoral process must be preserved.
The APC chieftain expressed confidence that the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would secure victory, describing him as a competent and visionary leader committed to inclusive governance and development.
With 14 political parties fielding candidates in the election, Oyintiloye’s call for neutrality and professionalism from law enforcement is aimed at fostering a fair democratic process in Osun State.
As the election date approaches, the former lawmaker’s message resonates with the urgency for a peaceful electoral environment, crucial for the future of the state and its citizens.
