Atiku Abubakar Urges Nigerian Youth to Vote for Competence, Not Money in 2027 Elections

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), called on young Nigerians to prioritize competence and integrity over vote-buying as the country gears up for the 2027 elections. Speaking at the RiseUpNaija Movement Leadership Retreat in Abuja, he emphasized the importance of active participation in the electoral process to ensure accountable leadership.

Atiku asserted that his presidential ambitions are not driven by personal gain but by a desire to foster a Nigeria where every citizen has equal opportunities to thrive. “I seek office because I believe in a Nigeria where leadership is accountable and institutions are strong,” he stated.

Addressing a crowd of hundreds, Atiku urged the youth to reject the allure of inducements, reminding them that their votes are more valuable than any short-term gains offered by politicians. “Do not exchange four years of your future for one afternoon of inducement,” he cautioned.

The event also marked the inauguration of state coordinators for the RiseUpNaija Movement, a platform uniting young Nigerians from various political backgrounds in support of Atiku’s 2027 bid. He conveyed his belief that if millions of young Nigerians vote responsibly, their collective will can outpace any financial inducements.

Reflecting on his political journey, Atiku expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential, despite decades of governance challenges. He lamented the lost opportunities for many youths, stating that poor leadership has stifled their potential. “I see the greatest national asset Nigeria has ever produced in our youth,” he declared.

Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, convener of the RiseUpNaija Movement, set an ambitious target of mobilizing 20 million voters to support Atiku’s candidacy. He emphasized the need for grassroots organization, aiming for a presence in every polling unit across the country.

Atiku’s message resonated with the audience as he highlighted the importance of informed voting. He urged Nigerians to consider candidates based on their character and ideas rather than material inducements during campaigns.

The former vice president concluded by reaffirming his commitment to democratic values, insisting that the youth must reclaim their future through active participation in the electoral process. “Your vote matters—let us make it count in 2027,” he urged.
