In a statement released by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council reiterated that the legitimately recognized National Chairman of Accord, Maxwell Mgbudem, is fully supportive of the re-election campaign for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the crucial gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
This rebuttal follows Imumolen’s public endorsement of Oyebamiji during an APC mega rally in Osogbo, where he announced that the Accord Party had withdrawn its support for Adeleke. He urged party members in Osun State to cast their votes for Oyebamiji, confidently predicting his victory.
The Imole Campaign Council dismissed this development as a “show of shame” orchestrated by the APC, accusing them of parading a “fake entity” to mislead voters. They asserted that Mgbudem remains the only recognized leader of the Accord Party as per the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
"The APC’s attempt to present Imumolen as the leader of Accord is a desperate move to create a misleading narrative," the statement declared. It further emphasized that Mgbudem stands firmly behind Adeleke and would never support the APC candidate.
The council urged voters in Osun to ignore the fabricated narrative and expressed confidence in Adeleke's impending victory, asserting that the people are determined to re-elect him.
This controversy highlights an ongoing leadership dispute within the Accord Party, which has become increasingly significant as the election date approaches. Earlier reports have categorized Imumolen as a factional chairman, while Mgbudem continues to be listed by INEC as the official party leader.
With the Osun gubernatorial election drawing near, the rivalry between Adeleke and Oyebamiji is expected to attract considerable attention, underscoring the high stakes involved in this political contest.
