This announcement came during the APC mega rally held on August 13, just days before the crucial election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Imumolen, who had previously been a presidential candidate for the Accord Party, highlighted this significant shift in support at the event.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, representing President Bola Tinubu, confirmed the news, stating that the Accord Party had "thrown in the towel" in favor of the APC candidate. Imumolen symbolically demonstrated his endorsement by swapping the yellow cap, traditionally associated with the Accord Party, for the APC's cap.
At the rally, an unidentified person tossed the yellow cap into the air, marking the end of the Accord Party's association with Adeleke. Imumolen urged all Accord members in Osun State to vote for Oyebamiji, emphasizing the urgency of the upcoming election.
"As the national chairman of Accord Party, we declare our support for Ambo (Oyebamiji)," Imumolen stated. He confidently predicted that Oyebamiji would be sworn in as the next governor of Osun State on August 15.
Akpabio took the opportunity to reassure voters that adequate security measures would be in place to ensure a peaceful voting process, encouraging citizens to vote for their preferred candidates without fear.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq echoed Akpabio's sentiments, urging party members to remain steadfast in their support for the APC and to participate actively in the election.
Oyebamiji, addressing the rally attendees, promised that an APC-led government would prioritize the needs of the people. "There’s no dancing again. I have a mandate with you, and that mandate is to improve the lives of the people of Osun," he declared.
The rally also featured prominent party members, including APC national chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former party leader Chief Bisi Akande.
This endorsement marks a pivotal moment in the lead-up to the Osun governorship election, with the Accord Party's shift potentially reshaping the political landscape in the state.
Imumolen had recently announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race, endorsing Tinubu for a second term, citing the president's leadership and reform efforts as crucial for Nigeria's future.
