Two Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested in Niger with Toy Guns

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of robbery, who were allegedly found in possession of toy guns and multiple Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards. The arrests occurred around 11:00 p.m. on July 14, following a routine surveillance operation by officers from the Tudun-Wada Division.

According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects were intercepted while riding in a tricycle near the M.I. Wushishi Estate junction. A subsequent search revealed three plastic pistols and 16 expired ATM cards belonging to various banks.

During questioning, the suspects claimed they discovered the ATM cards while scavenging in Lagos State. However, authorities are skeptical about their explanation, as police believe the toy guns were intended for use in robbing unsuspecting residents in the vicinity of M.I. Wushishi Estate. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their activities.

In a related incident, the police conducted a sting operation in the Sabon-Titi area of Tunga, leading to the arrest of five suspected thugs. The operation yielded several items, including a bag of suspected cannabis, two knives, three cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons.

Abiodun reported that the suspects claimed the weapons were intended for a Maulud celebration and acknowledged their involvement in clashes with rival youths from the Tunga-Maje area. All five suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring public safety in the region. As investigations unfold, authorities are working to ascertain any connections between the two cases.
