The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the incident occurred at about 6:31 a.m. at a twin three-storey residential building located on Ademola Taiwo Street, Ketu-Ikosi.
According to the agency's spokesperson, Olawale Afolabi, emergency responders arrived promptly and launched coordinated firefighting operations to contain the blaze before it spread to the adjoining building and nearby properties.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge from a prepaid meter installed on the building's balcony, before spreading to the uppermost floor.
During efforts to extinguish the fire, two personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reportedly collapsed due to the intensity of the operation.
LASEMA said its response team immediately evacuated the affected firefighters to the Trauma Centre using an agency ambulance and emergency response vehicle.
The agency confirmed that both officers are in stable condition and are responding to treatment.
No deaths or injuries involving residents were recorded, while firefighters successfully prevented the inferno from extending to neighbouring buildings.
Emergency officials said dampening operations were still ongoing to eliminate residual heat and reduce the risk of another outbreak, while damage assessment and recovery efforts continue at the scene.
Commending the emergency responders, LASEMA praised the professionalism and swift response of its Tiger Squad and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for preventing what could have escalated into a more devastating incident.
The agency also urged residents to regularly inspect electrical installations, including prepaid meters and wiring, to minimise the risk of electrical fires, while reminding the public to contact emergency services through the toll-free numbers 112 or 767 during emergencies.
