President Tinubu Encourages Diaspora Medical Professionals to Return Home

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian healthcare professionals residing abroad to return home and contribute to the nation’s development. This appeal was made during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations at the State House in Abuja, led by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Director-General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

Drawing on his own experiences of studying and working in the United States, Tinubu urged medical professionals to reflect on their journey and the potential impact they could have in Nigeria. "I’ve experienced being in America, but there’s nowhere like home. My time abroad has shaped who I am, yet the challenge of improving Nigeria remains my priority," he stated.

Tinubu emphasized that returning home can provide significant opportunities for personal and professional growth. He encouraged the delegation to persuade their colleagues abroad to consider a similar path, stating, "Your contributions are invaluable in building a stronger future for generations to come."

The President also reiterated his administration's commitment to addressing poverty and enhancing welfare across the country. "We will not accept poverty; we will combat it and bring prosperity to our people," he declared, underscoring the importance of a robust healthcare system in achieving these goals.

Acknowledging the role of diaspora professionals, Tinubu asserted that their expertise is essential in strengthening local health systems, especially in light of the ongoing National Diaspora Day Celebration 2026, which focuses on this theme.

During the meeting, the President also referenced Nigeria's evolving political landscape, encouraging continued determination and focus among citizens. "We are young in our democratic journey, and we must learn from the experiences of older democracies," he noted.

Additionally, he highlighted the significance of unity and teamwork, using the 2026 FIFA World Cup—jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—as an example of what can be achieved through collaboration.

Tinubu directed the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission to prepare personalized letters of appreciation for the visiting delegation, emphasizing the government's recognition of their efforts.

As the meeting concluded, the President expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria, encouraging the diaspora to harness their skills and knowledge for national progress. "Your return can help lay a strong foundation for our children and ensure a brighter future for all Nigerians," he concluded.
