The arrest followed a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja after the suspect failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment over allegations bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said Adeyemi was apprehended by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) from Abuja at his hideout in the state.
According to Ojelabi, the suspect is expected to be moved to Abuja to face prosecution.
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court had earlier ordered Adeyemi's arrest after granting an application by the prosecution following his absence in court to answer an eight-count charge filed against him by the Nigeria Police Force.
The police alleged that Adeyemi falsely represented himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an agency the Presidency has repeatedly stated does not exist.
Investigators also accused him of forging official government documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter allegedly bearing the signature of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and using the documents to present the organisation as a legitimate government agency.
The police further alleged that the suspect operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja while posing as the head of the disputed council.
Before his arrest, Adeyemi had maintained during a television interview that he was not evading security agencies but feared for his safety, alleging that there had been attempts on his life. He also called for an independent investigation into claims surrounding his appointment.
Justice Umar adjourned the matter until September 30, 2026, for the defendant's arraignment.
If found guilty, Adeyemi could face substantial prison terms on the forgery and impersonation charges brought against him.
