Olubadan Hails Tinubu's Anti-Kidnapping Strategy: A New Era for Nigeria's Security

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his administration's decisive actions against kidnapping in Nigeria, marking what he calls a pivotal moment in the nation's battle against this crime. 

During a recent courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ladoja expressed gratitude for the federal government's response to the alarming incidents in Oyo State, particularly following the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a now-viral video, the meeting, which focused on the security challenges faced by Oyo State, took place without the attendance of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Owoade. 

Ladoja commended Tinubu for his refusal to negotiate with kidnappers through ransom payments, emphasizing that this firm stance has restored public confidence in the government's ability to combat insecurity. “Your decision not to pay ransom shows we have a government that knows what it is doing,” Ladoja stated.

He urged continued federal support to solidify the security gains in the region, warning that the forest areas connecting Oyo and Niger states must not be abandoned. “If we can secure the forest, it means Oyo State is secured,” he advised.

Tinubu recently disclosed that security forces managed to secure the release of the kidnapped without paying ransom, a move he described as a significant breakthrough against terrorism. Instead of yielding to demands, the government adopted intelligence-led operations, which pressured the kidnappers indirectly.

The president noted that the victims were freed after 56 days in captivity, with multiple suspects apprehended and several others neutralized during the rescue operation. This strategic approach is seen as a model for tackling future threats.

Ladoja's commendation reflects a broader sentiment among traditional leaders in Oyo, who are increasingly supportive of the federal government's strategies regarding security. As insecurity remains a pressing issue in Nigeria, sustained efforts and collaboration between state and federal authorities are deemed essential for lasting peace.
