During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi criticized Tinubu’s administration for failing to deliver the necessary guidance to navigate the country through its existing crises. He expressed concerns about Tinubu's current capacity to govern, drawing a stark comparison between the president's tenure as the governor of Lagos State and his present role.
“The Bola Tinubu that served as governor is not the same as the one leading the nation today. He appears fatigued and should be allowed to retire gracefully,” Obi stated, emphasizing the need for a leadership change in Nigeria.
Obi asserted that under Tinubu's leadership, the country is heading in the wrong direction, insisting that it is imperative for him to step aside. “Right now, Bola Tinubu is leading us nowhere. We must make this clear to him. He lacks the capacity required for this job,” Obi declared.
Highlighting pressing national issues such as poverty, hunger, education, and insecurity, Obi urged Nigerians to prioritize these concerns over political maneuvering. He referenced alarming global projections indicating that nearly 79 percent of Nigerians could fall below the poverty line, with millions at risk of food insecurity.
In response to comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who praised Tinubu's efforts to tackle insecurity, Obi acknowledged the commendation but maintained that the government's actions are insufficient. “Thank you to President Trump for his recognition. However, we must do much more than what is currently being done,” he remarked.
Obi reiterated the urgency for a more proactive approach to the crises facing Nigeria, stating, “While some may view Tinubu’s efforts as commendable, they are simply not enough given the scale of the challenges we are confronting.”
The former Anambra State governor's remarks come at a time when Nigeria grapples with escalating economic hardship and security issues, raising questions about the effectiveness of the current administration.
