The operation was carried out by personnel of the Naval Base, Oguta, in Oguta Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage.
According to the Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, naval operatives intercepted a Mercedes truck transporting 10 sections of crude oil pipeline believed to have been illegally removed from the Addax Petroleum pipeline network along the Osu–Obodo Road corridor.
He said one of the suspects was arrested while escorting the truck conveying the recovered pipeline materials.
Folorunsho added that a second suspect, believed to be connected to the vandalism network, was apprehended during follow-up operations by the naval team.
He disclosed that security agencies are intensifying efforts to track down other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
The Navy noted that the operation prevented the suspected vandals from removing the stolen pipeline sections, thereby limiting further damage to critical oil infrastructure and preserving key evidence for ongoing investigations.
The service described the operation as part of its intelligence-driven campaign aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and related economic crimes.
Folorunsho reaffirmed the Navy's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's strategic oil and gas assets through sustained surveillance and coordinated security operations.
He also stressed that the Navy will continue working with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to protect national infrastructure and strengthen internal security.
The Nigerian Navy maintained that it remains determined to sustain pressure on criminal elements threatening the nation's economic resources while supporting efforts to ensure stability in the oil and gas sector.
