Kogi State Polytechnic Suspends Lecturers Amid Misconduct Allegations

Kogi State Polytechnic has taken decisive action against allegations of misconduct by suspending six lecturers linked to the unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer faces suspension over accusations of sexual harassment. This move comes as the institution grapples with rising concerns about sexual exploitation, cult activities, and overall discipline.

In a statement released on Sunday, the institution's spokesperson, John Onimisi, confirmed that the suspensions occurred on July 22, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation into serious allegations against faculty members. 

“The management is committed to addressing these issues and has already initiated investigations through the institution’s disciplinary committee,” Onimisi stated. He assured that appropriate actions will follow based on the committee's findings.

Sources within the polytechnic have voiced concerns that some lecturers are allegedly demanding sexual favors or monetary payments from female students in exchange for passing grades. Reports also indicate a troubling resurgence of cult activities, with students claiming that nocturnal meetings have begun to reappear on campus.

Internal sources have highlighted that previous disciplinary measures seem to have weakened under the current administration, emboldening errant staff and students alike. Allegations have surfaced regarding a lack of institutional support for female students who report sexual harassment, with some reportedly facing intimidation instead of protection.

In addition to the suspensions, there are claims that the institution has relaxed its dress code and has reintroduced compulsory sales of handouts, which have contributed to a decline in student discipline.

Despite the troubling allegations, Onimisi emphasized that the management is aware of the situation and is addressing it with urgency. “The outcome of the investigation will be shared with the media, ensuring transparency in our efforts to restore integrity within the institution,” he added.

The growing concerns over misconduct at Kogi State Polytechnic reflect broader issues across educational institutions in Nigeria, where cases of sexual harassment and cultism have raised alarms among students, parents, and advocacy groups.
