In the suit, Gbajabiamila is seeking N10 billion in general damages, N5 billion in aggravated damages and N200 million as the cost of the legal action.
He is also asking the court to compel the defendant to publish a full retraction and apology in five national newspapers and pin the apology on all social media platforms and online channels where the allegations were circulated for 30 days.
The lawsuit, filed by his legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, describes the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to the claimant's reputation.
According to the court documents, Adeyemi had alleged that the Chief of Staff demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a N27.3 billion take-off grant approved for a federal agency and claimed that part of the money had already been paid through an intermediary.
Gbajabiamila, however, denied the allegations, insisting he had never met or communicated with Adeyemi and had never authorised anyone to demand or receive money on his behalf.
He further denied claims linking him to the late Babatunde Tanimola, alleged payments made through proxies, attempts to influence security agencies or any effort to obstruct investigations.
The claimant stated that his lawyers had earlier issued a cease-and-desist letter demanding an immediate retraction, but alleged that the defendant instead repeated the accusations during subsequent media appearances.
Gbajabiamila also argued that Adeyemi later admitted in an interview that he had never met him personally and could not independently verify the identity of the individual he believed he had been communicating with.
The suit further noted that Adeyemi is currently facing criminal charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations involving forged presidential documents and appointment letters, which the claimant said formed the basis of the disputed claims.
Gbajabiamila maintained that the allegations had subjected him to public ridicule, damaged his reputation and triggered widespread enquiries from associates both within and outside Nigeria.
He urged the court to grant all the reliefs sought, stating that the legal action was necessary to protect both his personal integrity and the dignity of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
