Anambra State Launches Free Fibroid Surgery Initiative in Celebration of Governor Soludo's Birthday

The Anambra State Government has initiated a program offering free fibroid surgeries for women as part of a healthcare outreach organized by the Friends of Soludo, coinciding with the birthdays of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo.

The initiative commenced at Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area and is part of a broader effort to provide free medical screenings, treatments, and surgeries aimed at alleviating the financial burden of healthcare on residents.

The program includes free myomectomy surgeries for women suffering from fibroids and ovarian cysts, alongside other surgical interventions at designated hospitals throughout the state.

During the launch of the initiative on Monday, Dr. Dozie Udeolisa, Chief Medical Officer at Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital, described the project as a transformative opportunity for women who have long struggled with the financial costs of surgery. “Fibroid surgery is often beyond the financial reach of many families, forcing patients to endure pain and complications for years. This initiative removes that barrier by offering treatment at no cost,” he explained.

The hospital has mobilized a team of experienced surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective procedures. Udeolisa noted that screening began prior to the surgeries, ensuring that only women who successfully completed the registration process would receive treatment.

The response to the initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, with many women who previously postponed treatment due to financial constraints now able to access the care they need at no charge.

Udeolisa expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo and the Friends of the Governor for their commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Anambra State. He highlighted the outreach as a demonstration of compassion and dedication to reducing preventable illnesses in the community.

In addition to fibroid surgeries, the outreach also includes free cataract surgeries, glaucoma screening and treatment at the Anambra State Specialist Eye Centre in Nise, and hernia surgeries at General Hospital, Umueri.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing program, which promises quality medical care at no cost to beneficiaries. This healthcare initiative is one of several launched by the Soludo administration to enhance access to affordable healthcare services across Anambra State.

As the program continues, officials remain optimistic about its impact on the health and well-being of women in the region, aiming to foster a healthier community overall.
