Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ijebu North, Ogun State, Sowunmi addressed concerns fueled by Tinubu's absence from the recent United Nations General Assembly, which some critics speculated was due to a medical vacation. He emphatically stated, “The President is in good health. The President is in sound mind.”
Sowunmi criticized the culture of negativity that surrounds political discourse in Nigeria, warning that it contributes to a harmful mindset of “continuous self-hate.” He called on citizens to focus on positive developments and investments rather than indulging in pessimism.
“Never listen to naysayers or those who only delight in bad news,” he urged, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to foster a more constructive national narrative.
The politician also pointed a finger at some opposition candidates, accusing them of failing to recognize Nigeria's achievements while amplifying its challenges. “You’ll never hear them celebrate any good news,” he lamented.
Regarding the upcoming 2027 elections, Sowunmi highlighted Ogun State's potential with nearly three million registered voters. He expressed confidence that the state could deliver voter turnout figures rivaling those of more populous states like Kano and Kaduna.
Sowunmi is optimistic about Tinubu's prospects in Ogun State, urging residents to mobilize and vote in large numbers. “Forget about the advocacy that the President won’t win here. He is going to win,” he declared.
He also voiced support for Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in the upcoming Ogun East senatorial election, stressing the importance of strong representation in the Senate for the state’s interests.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of 2027, Sowunmi's remarks aim to rally support for Tinubu while challenging the narrative surrounding the President's health and capabilities.
In closing, he called on citizens to prioritize national unity and positive discourse as Nigeria navigates its political future.
