Kebbi Police Threaten Legal Action Over Highway Blockades

The Kebbi State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any further blockades of the Kebbi-Sokoto Federal Highway, threatening legal action against individuals or groups who disrupt traffic. This warning follows a recent blockade that halted vehicular movement for approximately three hours on October 9.

This blockade marks the second such incident in recent weeks, with a similar disruption occurring on September 23, 2026. In a statement from SP Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, the police condemned these unlawful actions, emphasizing that they violate the rights of other road users, including those needing emergency medical care.

“The blockade obstructed motorists and hindered the public's ability to conduct lawful activities,” the statement asserted. The police highlighted that such actions could create opportunities for criminal activities and urged individuals with grievances to seek resolution through legal channels.

The command advised citizens to approach their elected representatives or the Police Community Relations Committee instead of resorting to road blockades. “Any recurrence of such blockades will attract appropriate legal action, with organizers and participants liable to investigation and prosecution,” the statement warned.

Kebbi's Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, appealed to residents to respect the rights of fellow citizens and avoid actions that threaten public peace. He urged parents to caution their children against participating in unlawful assemblies, stressing the importance of adhering to the law.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring the free movement of people and goods. “The Command will not tolerate any blockage of roads under any circumstances,” they declared.

In conclusion, the police urged the public to remain law-abiding and resolve disputes through proper channels, emphasizing that obstructing traffic only creates hardship for commuters and other residents. The command aims to uphold law and order while safeguarding citizens' rights.
