Wike’s comments came during an inspection of road projects in the FCT after Kingibe accused him of securing loans without proper authorization. He stated, “You cannot take a loan without the approval of the National Assembly. Any loan will be included in the budget.”
Wike expressed confidence that Kingibe’s political relevance was waning, claiming that residents had chosen to support President Bola Tinubu and his preferred senatorial candidate, Philip Aduda. “She is on her way out; the people have made their choice,” he remarked.
The minister criticized Kingibe for focusing on the loans rather than questioning their application for community development. “If I took a loan, I’m using it to work. Her concern should be whether we’re applying the loan for the benefit of residents,” he said.
Wike dismissed Kingibe’s timing as politically motivated, linking it to the recent lifting of campaign restrictions ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections. “While inspecting projects, we are also campaigning,” he noted.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of various road projects, including the N1 road and others spanning Tunga Madaki to Zuba. According to Wike, these projects will significantly benefit local communities and improve their living conditions.
“The happiness of the people is the essence of governance,” he concluded, emphasizing the positive impact of the ongoing developments.
As the political landscape heats up, Wike remains undeterred, focusing on delivering results rather than engaging in rivalries with "inferiors," as he put it.
