The arrest was announced by the command's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, who detailed the operation in a statement from Osogbo.
The incident took place on August 30, 2026, when police on routine patrol discovered a broken-down vehicle suspected to be involved in illegal activities.
The vehicle, a silver Toyota Sienna Space Bus, was abandoned by the roadside. Officers from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) became suspicious and decided to investigate further.
Upon inspection, several bags containing what appeared to be Indian hemp were found within the vehicle. The driver, identified as Awo Omotayo, arrived on the scene to retrieve the vehicle, accompanied by two others, Abayomi Suleiman and Oluwatayo Samuel.
During questioning, Omotayo disclosed that a man known as Baba Ibo had hired him to transport the illicit substances to Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Baba Ibo is reportedly linked to the intended recipient of the cargo.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has mandated a thorough investigation to uncover the source and target of the drugs. Efforts are underway to locate Baba Ibo and any other individuals involved in the operation.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating drug trafficking.
