Osun Government Vows to Hold Killers Accountable Amid Rising Violence

 The Osun State government has made it clear that it will not protect anyone involved in the recent surge of violent crimes, including the murder of Olalekan Oyeyemi, a leader within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Samuel Ojo, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ademola Adeleke, emphasized the administration's commitment to justice during a recent interview.

Ojo's statements come in the wake of allegations that government officials are shielding those responsible for Oyeyemi’s death, which is believed to be linked to a leadership struggle within the NURTW. Two union leaders, Gbedegesin and Kareem Akeem, claimed in a viral video that Oyeyemi was set to take over as the next state chairman with the governor’s endorsement, leading to his untimely death.

However, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, refuted these claims, stating that the meeting with union leaders was merely informational and did not constitute an official endorsement.

In response to the ongoing violence, which has seen approximately five lives lost between August 24 and September 15 due to conflicts over motor park control and cult-related activities, Ojo highlighted the steps being taken to restore order. An emergency security meeting was convened, presided over by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, and attended by various security service commanders.

"The governor has made it clear that there should be no tolerance for further violence," Ojo stated, assuring that law enforcement agencies will thoroughly investigate the murder and other violent incidents.

Responding to the allegations of government complicity in shielding perpetrators, Ojo reiterated that the Adeleke administration is committed to a transparent investigation. He stressed that those found culpable will face the full force of the law.

The urgency of the situation was underscored during the emergency meeting, where service commanders promised that steps would be taken to prevent further loss of life in the state. Ojo confirmed that the police and other security agencies are working diligently to identify and apprehend those behind the recent killings.

As violence escalates, the state government seeks to reassure residents that measures are being implemented to restore the peace that Osun once enjoyed before this troubling period.

With calls for justice growing louder, the Adeleke administration faces the challenge of navigating these turbulent waters while ensuring that the safety and security of all citizens remain a top priority.
