Lagos State Unveils Digital System to Streamline Planning Approvals

In a progressive move towards modernizing urban development, the Lagos State Government has rolled out the Electronic Physical Planning Processing System (EPPPS), aimed at enhancing the efficiency of planning approvals. This initiative was highlighted during a recent stakeholders' engagement at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, opened the event by underscoring the dual benefits of the project for both the government and the public. He explained that the EPPPS is a strategic step toward advancing Lagos through electronic systems, making the planning process not only faster but also more user-friendly.

Dr. Olumide noted that to access the EPPPS, users must fulfill certain requirements, including maintaining a valid tax status, reinforcing the importance of compliance in the planning process.

Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Wasiu Olayinka, urged professionals and stakeholders in the built environment to embrace the new system. He emphasized that the EPPPS enhances transparency, accountability, and productivity in planning, marking a significant re-engineering of the physical planning approval process.

Highlighting the broader vision for a #Greater Lagos, Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Opeyemi Ogunbo, spoke about ongoing reforms across various sectors. He reassured participants that the EPPPS is designed to promote safe, orderly, and sustainable development.

Guest Lecturer Professor Timothy Nubi emphasized the importance of collaboration among professionals and relevant agencies for the successful implementation of the EPPPS. He called on all stakeholders to actively adopt the new system to maximize its benefits.

The engagement marks a crucial step in the state’s commitment to leveraging technology for urban planning, creating a more efficient and accessible process for all involved. As Lagos continues to grow, the EPPPS aims to lay the groundwork for a sustainable future in urban development.

With these advancements, Lagos is poised to redefine its planning landscape, ensuring that development is both rapid and responsible.
