In an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight, Arabambi assessed the political landscape leading up to the election, asserting that Atiku is the only candidate prepared to mount a serious challenge against the incumbent.
“We have a sitting president, and we have only one contender against him. The only contender I see ready to slug it out with the incumbent is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Arabambi stated.
He went on to dismiss the chances of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that Obi is more focused on commentary than genuine political ambition. “When you look at Peter Obi, you realize he is just the chief content creator,” he said.
Arabambi criticized Obi’s reliance on statistics in his discussions, alleging that many of the figures he presents have been proven to be inaccurate. “He comes with all manner of statistics that you now find out to be false,” he added.
Furthermore, Arabambi claimed that Obi is not preparing to run in the 2027 presidential election. “He’s not contesting, even their leader knows Obi is not contesting,” he asserted.
The Labour Party chieftain also addressed the contentious issue of presidential zoning ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that the presidency is currently zoned to the South. He argued that the region should complete its eight-year tenure before power transitions back to another region.
Arabambi recalled Atiku's previous attempt to secure the presidency after the completion of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s term, noting that Nigerians opted for Tinubu instead.
“In 2023, Atiku came out to say he wanted to run after Buhari’s eight years, but Nigerians decided to give it to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he remarked.
With the election nearing, the debate around viable candidates and their intentions intensifies, particularly as Arabambi positions Atiku as the leading candidate against Tinubu.
