Akpabio Calls on Northern Youths to Embrace Tinubu's Economic Reforms

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Northern youths to rally behind the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that these measures are beginning to yield positive outcomes.

Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly at his Abuja residence, Akpabio emphasized the significance of the reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange adjustments.

According to spokesperson Ibrahim Dan-Musa, Akpabio described the reforms as difficult yet essential steps toward revitalizing the Nigerian economy. He reassured attendees that the policies have crossed a critical threshold and are starting to produce tangible results.

“I stand before you not merely as a politician, but as a public servant committed to our nation's prosperity,” Akpabio stated, highlighting that the reforms are concrete actions aimed at dismantling longstanding economic bottlenecks.

He noted that the removal of fuel subsidies and efforts to stabilize the foreign exchange market are necessary for fiscal sustainability and redirecting government resources into vital sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

“While these measures initially posed challenges, they were the surgical procedures needed to redirect resources,” he explained.

The Senate President reported early indicators of success, including improved revenue collection and increased investor confidence, urging young people to engage actively in governance and national development.

“You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow,” he emphasized, calling for innovation and engagement from the youth.

Akpabio also mentioned that the 10th National Assembly is prioritizing reforms to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. He encouraged young Nigerians to contribute to these processes.

He warned that abandoning the current reform program prematurely could undermine the gains achieved so far. 

As political activities ramp up ahead of the 2027 general elections, Tinubu's economic policies are set to remain a focal point in national discourse.

Dan-Musa praised Akpabio for his efforts in fostering political understanding between the North and South, highlighting the importance of national unity over regional interests.

The assembly pledged to mobilize grassroots support to educate Nigerians on the long-term benefits of the government's economic policies, emphasizing that national unity is crucial for collective survival.
