🥇 Salako Pushes Deeper Nigeria-China Health Partnership

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has called for deeper Nigeria-China collaboration in healthcare, particularly in artificial intelligence, digital health, medical technology and workforce development.

Salako made the call while representing Nigeria at the 32nd China International Medical Equipment Exhibition and Scientific Conference (China-Hospeq 2026), held from August 14 to 16 at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing.

Speaking at the conference, the minister said stronger international partnerships were essential to Nigeria’s efforts to transform its health sector under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He identified strengthening primary healthcare, expanding access to quality medical services and promoting local production of medical supplies as key priorities, stressing that achieving them would require innovative technology, skilled health professionals and strategic partnerships.

Salako highlighted the growing health cooperation between Nigeria and China, noting opportunities for collaboration in hospital development, medical technology, digital health, diagnostics, health emergency preparedness and training of healthcare workers.

He also welcomed the China-Africa Hospitals Alliance, describing it as an important platform for sustainable institution-to-institution cooperation between African and Chinese health institutions.

The minister stressed that healthcare transformation must go beyond the provision of equipment, insisting that technology must be matched with skilled personnel and effective systems.

He urged participants to turn the ideas and innovations showcased at China-Hospeq 2026 into practical partnerships and measurable health outcomes.

“Let us transition from exhibition to implementation and from innovation to impact,” Salako said.
