Oba Matemilola's Growing Royal Household: Meet the New Ghanaian Queen Joining the Owu Palace

The Owu Kingdom has welcomed Olori Cecilia Naadensua Matemilola II, a Ghanaian royal, into the Owu royal family in a colourful reception filled with tradition, culture and royal camaraderie.

Her arrival follows a historic royal Nikkah held in Helsinki, Finland, on July 26, 2026, between Olori Cecilia and Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Ayokanmi Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom.

Olori Cecilia, who also holds the Ghanaian traditional title Mputu Hemaa Nana Abena Enyimba II, is a Development Queen Mother of Abura in Ghana.

 Her union with the Olowu has brought together royal connections spanning Nigeria, Ghana and Finland, adding a fresh dimension to the cultural ties between the two countries.

At the Owu reception, she was warmly welcomed by Olori Adijat Bamidele Matemilola and the Iwarefa (High Chiefs), marking her formal homecoming into the Owu royal family.

Beyond the glamour of royalty, the union is being celebrated as a bridge between Yoruba and Ghanaian heritage, with both royal households highlighting culture, community development and stronger relationships across borders.

From Ghana to Finland, and now to Owu — Olori Cecilia's royal journey is certainly one to watch.
