NFF Appoints Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman as New COO for NPFL Season Kickoff

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman as the new Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as the 2026/27 season commences.

The announcement was made on Friday, coinciding with the season's opening match between Shooting Stars and newly promoted Inter Lagos at Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan.

Abdulrahaman's appointment takes immediate effect and follows an NFF directive issued on August 27, mandating the restructuring of its management and league administration. This directive called for board members and chief executive officers outside NFF staff to vacate their positions.

Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, who was appointed as the interim General Secretary of the NFF the previous day, confirmed Abdulrahaman’s appointment in line with the federation’s new direction.

As the COO, Abdulrahaman will oversee the operational administration of the NPFL as clubs gear up for their campaigns this season.

The opening-day fixture in Ibadan marked a significant return for the NPFL, which will see clubs competing for the league title, continental qualification, and survival as the season unfolds.

This restructuring comes amid ongoing efforts by the NFF to enhance the effectiveness of its management and improve the overall quality of the league.

The NFF is confident that Abdulrahaman’s leadership will contribute positively to the league's development and the growth of Nigerian football.

As the season progresses, fans and clubs alike will be looking for improvements in league operations under his guidance.
