In a recent statement, Akpabio emphasized the distinction between electioneering and legislative work, asserting that both can coexist without interference. Speaking to reporters at the Presidential wing of the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, he expressed confidence that National Assembly members would continue to prioritize their duties.
During a meeting with APC Critical Stakeholders from Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Akpabio, alongside President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno, received unanimous backing for their return bids in 2027.
"We were elected for four years, and we intend to fulfill our commitment during that time," Akpabio stated. He acknowledged the complexities of balancing political campaigns with legislative responsibilities but insisted that it is manageable.
"Campaigns can be scheduled for afternoons or evenings, allowing us to focus on our work during the day," he added. He highlighted that not all politicians would be engaged in campaigning simultaneously due to differing party affiliations, ensuring that legislative processes remain unaffected.
Akpabio reassured the public, saying, "Nothing will impede legislation. We will continue to enact laws that address the needs of our citizens. The functioning of parliament has never been hindered by election campaigns."
As the political landscape heats up, Akpabio’s message aims to calm concerns about potential disruptions in governance due to the electoral season. His commitment to legislative duties remains steadfast, emphasizing that the needs of the people will always come first.
