The announcement was made by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council.
Uzodimma, who also chairs the South-East Governors’ Forum, emphasized that despite their varied political affiliations, the governors have collectively assessed the Federal Government's performance and found it commendable.
“Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments,” he stated, highlighting tangible progress in the region.
The governor revealed plans for a joint courtesy visit to President Tinubu to further solidify collaboration with the central government. He cautioned against the use of Igbo platforms for unfounded political propaganda, asserting that the Igbos value substantial infrastructure over mere political rhetoric.
Among the key projects credited to Tinubu’s administration is the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), a long-awaited initiative that aims to boost regional development. Uzodimma noted that the commission commenced operations following its establishment in July 2024.
Other significant developments include the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line and the approval for the $3 billion reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor. Additionally, road infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, have been highlighted as pivotal in enhancing connectivity and economic activities.
Uzodimma also mentioned several road projects that are expected to facilitate trade and movement within the South-East, including the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road.
The governor pointed to broader benefits from national policies under Tinubu’s leadership, citing increased state allocations, a student loan scheme, and various security initiatives as positive developments for the South-East.
In discussing local governance, Uzodimma urged traditional leaders and council members to support the state’s Charter of Equity, which aims to ensure fair political power rotation and foster peace. He committed to vigorously protecting the charter, emphasizing its importance for stability in Imo State.
Uzodimma also advocated for enhanced investment in vocational education and skills acquisition as a means to combat unemployment and promote sustainable economic growth in the region.
As the 2027 elections approach, the governor’s endorsement is set to influence political dynamics in the South-East, encouraging collaboration between state and federal governments to further develop the region.
