Security Breach at Hadejia Nursing School: Four Arrested for Vandalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended four individuals for allegedly vandalizing and stealing aluminum roofing sheets from the School of Nursing in Hadejia, Jigawa State.

The suspects were caught during a routine surveillance operation conducted by NSCDC operatives from the Gandun Sarki Division. They were found behind the perimeter fence of the institution on Tuesday, raising alarms about the security of critical national assets.

According to the NSCDC's Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, the suspects were in possession of 13 square meters of aluminum sheets believed to have been stolen from ongoing renovation work at the school.

The arrested individuals include Adamu Mohd, 31, a security guard at the school; Dan Inu Mohd, 35, a carpenter; Isma’ila Adamu, 30, a tricycle rider; and Bashari Yahaya, 25, an apprentice. Preliminary investigations indicated that one of them was part of the school's security team, highlighting serious internal security gaps.

“This incident has unveiled a critical lapse in the institution's internal security architecture,” Tijjani stated. He emphasized the need for the School of Nursing to bolster its security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The NSCDC has alerted the institution's management about the identified vulnerabilities and advised immediate action to enhance security protocols.

The Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Muhammad Ingawa, reiterated the Corps’ commitment to combating vandalism and safeguarding public infrastructure throughout the state.

He issued a stern warning against vandalism, emphasizing that the NSCDC would continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations to bring offenders to justice.

Vandalism of public infrastructure remains a persistent issue in Nigeria, with schools, hospitals, and other critical facilities frequently targeted for theft. Such acts not only result in financial losses but also disrupt essential services and hinder developmental projects.

The NSCDC's proactive measures aim to protect vital assets and ensure that offenders face the consequences of their actions, ultimately safeguarding the integrity of public services and infrastructure.
