Oyo State Enhances Security with Acquisition of Surveillance Aircraft

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a significant enhancement to the state's security infrastructure with the acquisition of two surveillance aircraft, marking a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The aircraft were received at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday, a culmination of a security initiative introduced by the governor approximately a year ago.

Governor Makinde emphasized that the introduction of these aircraft represents a crucial advancement in the fight against insecurity in the state. He remarked that the initiative reflects his administration's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and the protection of property.

"The acquisition of these surveillance aircraft aims to bolster our ground security personnel with advanced aerial intelligence," Makinde stated, highlighting the need for a sophisticated approach to security given Oyo's expansive landmass.

He elaborated on the strategic decision to procure the aircraft, which was part of a long-term plan designed to enable security agencies to monitor incidents and respond swiftly across the state. Despite unforeseen security challenges, including recent abductions, Makinde noted that the timing of the aircraft's arrival has proven fortuitous.

"We planned for this expansion to cover as much of the state's landmass as possible in the shortest time," he said, reaffirming his administration's dedication to implementing its security plans despite previous criticisms regarding delays.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the delivery of the aircraft, calling it a testament to proactive governance aimed at creating a secure environment conducive to development. "In an atmosphere of insecurity, meaningful development is nearly impossible. Now, with improved security, schools are able to resume normal academic activities," he added.

The surveillance aircraft are set to commence operations immediately under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Air Force. Makinde noted that Air Force pilots were responsible for flying the aircraft into the state, further solidifying the collaborative effort to enhance Oyo's security architecture.

"We're hitting the ground running with this partnership. The Air Force will play an integral role in our operations," he stated.
