Governor Adeleke emphasized the dual carriageway's potential to improve commerce, mobility, and safety for residents. He highlighted the project as part of his administration’s broader commitment to infrastructural development across the state, particularly in rural communities.
“This dual carriageway is more than just a road; it serves as a lifeline for the people of Ila, facilitating trade and enhancing access to essential services,” Adeleke stated. He noted that the road's construction aligns with ongoing efforts to promote investment and improve transportation for agricultural produce, as well as access to schools and healthcare facilities.
The governor also announced that the dual carriageway is part of a larger infrastructure initiative, which includes the completion of over seven kilometres of intracity roads in Ila-Orangun. He pointed out the historical significance of Ila as a center of learning and culture, underlining the importance of the new road in connecting the town to other areas.
Dr. Tokunbo Salam, the Commissioner for Special Duties, praised the timely completion of the first phase, which was achieved within the 12-month timeline set by the governor. He remarked on the transformative impact of the project on the community, noting that it represents a landmark achievement in Osun's infrastructure history.
The project, which is planned to span a total of 10 kilometres, will be executed in three phases. The first two phases will each cover 3.5 kilometres, while the final phase will extend an additional three kilometres. According to Olalekan Salami, the Director of Research and Planning in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the dual carriageway will ultimately connect to the Federal University of Health Sciences, further enhancing its significance.
Governor Adeleke’s administration has marked its tenure with substantial infrastructure upgrades, having reconstructed, rehabilitated, and renovated over 175 kilometres of roads throughout the state.
As the state looks toward future developments, Adeleke expressed confidence that the ongoing projects would continue to attract investment and promote growth in the region.
“This administration believes that development must reach the grassroots,” he affirmed, reiterating his commitment to improving living conditions for all residents of Osun State.
The dual carriageway is anticipated to have a lasting impact on the community, setting the stage for further urban renewal and economic development initiatives in the years to come.
