No fever than five persons lost their lives while one other suffered injury in a multiple auto crash that occurred at the ever busy Ota-Idiroko Road in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State .
The accident which occurred on Wednesday at about 10.35am involved a Mack Tanker loaded with diesel, Toyota Camry with number plate FKJ 132 HE, Volkswagen Golf, TVS Tricycle with number plate KSF 822 QL and a Honda motorcycle.
First Awareness learnt that the accident occurred following the brake failure of the Mack Tanker with number plate KTU 258 XT.
The driver according to traffic report, lost control of the vehicle, making it to hit other vehicles on its path.
Some of the occupants of the vehicles affected were said to have been lucky as their vehicles were not worst hit but the TVS Tricycle and the passengers were mostly affected.
The zonal commander, of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, in Sango-Ota,Mr Kunle Ajibade confirmed the accident.
He said the TRACE had to deploy crane and a flat bed vehicles to remove the vehicles involved from the ditch, with the exception of the tanker still loaded with diesel.
Also confirming the story, the Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said a total of 11 occupants out of which 8 were males and three others were females involved in the multiple crash but five died out of which two were males and all the three females while one male was injured.
He said the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Ota, while the injured is receiving treatment in another hospital.
"Evacuation of all the vehicles involved had been completed except the tanker, as TRACE awaits NUPENG officials for transloading before total evacuation.
"Also,TRACE, operatives from the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were also on ground to direct vehicular traffic."Akinbiyi stressed.
