Borders Re-opening; Customs Calls On Agents,Interested Nigerians To Embrace legitimate Businesses

The Nigeria Customs Services,Ogun1 Area Command has called on all accredited agents and other Nigerians who are interested in embracing genuine business to come forward as the Command is ready to assist in facilitating legal businesses.

Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde made the call on Tuesday at Idiroko while responding to Journalists questions on the recent reopening of borders by the Federal Government.


"We are still at the skeletal stage of doing business with all our accredited Customs agents, but the modalities and documentations procedure are there for any body who wants to know how to do legitimate businesses".

Makinde disclosed that youth restlessness which hitherto, characterized the border closure has reduced drastically.

He said both youths and the old are gradually embracing genuine means of doing businesses rather than engaging in snuggling activities while the border is reopened.

"In terms of socio economic effects, life is gradually coming back to the border areas. People that are ready for legal businesses are welcomed, but the restlessness among the youths is going down. The environment has changed, people are responding" Makinde added.

Comptroller Bamidele therefore , warned all the criminal elements in Ogun State that in whichever way and methods they plan their smuggling activities,his Command shall definitely uncover,arrest and make seizures.

On the activities of his Command for the past one Month, Makinde disclosed that,his Command made a seizures of 4, 603 bags of foreign parboiled rice with each weighing 50kg, an equivalent of 8 trailer loads.

Makinde listed other items intercepted to include: 89 cartons of foreign wine, 35 cartons and 12 packets of tomatoe paste, 2 units of Foreign used vehicles (Tokunbo), 8 units of means of conveyance ,2units of Motor cycle among others seizures.

According to him,the feat was achievable through the hard work and the intelligence gatherings of his officers.

Makinde as well attributed his Command success to the collaborating efforts of critical stakeholders, members of the media,sister Security agencies and Traditional Rulers with many thanks to all for their support and synergy with his Command.
